Also [Jesus] told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not to turn coward (faint, lose heart, and give up). Luke 18:1 (AMP)
Facing the world lone is a foolish and fearful thing to do. The Christian should never get tricked into thinking that he can go it alone. The devil would like nothing better.
The Bible, the Word of God, tells us that we are to "be subject to God. Resist the devil [stand firm against him]," and that "he will flee" (James 4:7 Amp). We have authority against the devil and his demonic legions to the degree that we are walking with and submitted to God. This calls us to "be doers of the Word [obeying the message], and not merely listeners to it ..." (James 1:22 Amp).
It is from the Word of God that we receive our boldness of faith with which we withstand the fiery darts of the evil one (Rom. 10:17; Eph. 6:16). We are not quitters and we are not possessors of timid, cowardly, faint character:
"For God did not give us a spirit of timidity (of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear), but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control" (2 Tim. 1:7 Amp).
We also receive great encouragement and strength from our time in prayer. This is why the Lord taught His disciples to pray. He emphasized the importance of a consistent prayer life and would chastize those that were close to Him if they did not pray:
"And He came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and He said to Peter, What! Are you so utterly unable to stay awake and keep watch with Me for one hour" (Matthew 26:40 Amp)?
Let me ask you a question today when our Nation and it's leaders need so much Divine intervention and guidance:
Can you keep watch with Me for one hour?
