They Forsook All

And after they had run their boats on shore, they left everything and joined Him as His disciples and sided with His party and accompanied Him. Luke 5:11 (AMP)

The verse tells us that "after they had run their boats on shore, they left everything and joined Him." Beloved, this is the secret to a Spirit-filled, Spirit-enabled life filled with revelation and power.

Each of us must come to an end of our works and "beach our boats" if we are to accompany Jesus. There is no looking back with a wistful eye if we are to realize the fulness of the call of Christ on our lives. Trying to carry the old life into the new will only cause our hearts to become more hardened than that of Lots wife when she was turned into a pillar of salt in the plain of Jordan (Genesis 19:26).

Jesus said to him, No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back [to the things behind] is fit for the kingdom of God. Luke 9:62 (Amp)

The Christian life is not meant to be one of mixture but one of absolute dedication to the Kingdom of God and the King of the Kingdom. We are to leave "everything" and join Him as disciples. We are not to invite Him to come and walk with us. We are to yield to His call to come and walk with Him.

I have been crucified with Christ [in Him I have shared His crucifixion]; it is no longer I who live, but Christ (the Messiah) lives in me; and the life I now live in the body I live by faith in (by adherence to and reliance on and complete trust in) the Son of God, Who loved me and gave Himself up for me. Galatians 2:20 (Amp)

The call to follow Christ is one that necessitates our dying to self and living to Him. It is no longer we living a life of service to Him in absolute obedience but His life lived through us in every area. There is a huge difference. A difference that transforms through the power of resurrection life.
