Nevertheless

And Simon (Peter) answered, Master, we toiled all night [exhaustingly] and caught nothing [in our nets]. But on the ground of Your word, I will lower the nets [again]. Luke 5:5 (AMP)

How many times have we done what we know how to do and, no matter how hard and long we labored, it just didn't work? All the planning, preparation and process was not producing what we had expected and we were getting tired and frustrated.

Is it possible that we have put our trust in our knowledge, skill and ability while we ignored our need for the Lord? Could it be that we became so self sufficient that we needed a reminder that we were created to work together with the Lord and not develop our own plans and procedures?

After the fall in the Garden of Eden mankind was able to make critical moral and value decisions without the counsel of God Almighty. "But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and blessing and calamity you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die" (Genesis 2:17 Amp). They would base their decisions on evil and calamity as well as on good and blessing rather than just the "good and perfect gift" of God. No decision ever need be fear based but only love based as it flows from the heart of God.

Peter and his friends were working on what they knew in and through the natural realm. He was spiritually aware enough, however, to yield to the Word of the Lord and do what he could not see the value of. The result was a huge, supernatural, catch of fish.

You and I need rely upon the leading of the Lord rather than the understanding of our experience and knowledge. As we learn to follow the Spirit of God, not leaning on our own understanding (Proverbs 3:5), we will find great increase and fulfillment beyond any natural means.
