I Will Send Forth Upon You

And behold, I will send forth upon you what My Father has promised; but remain in the city [Jerusalem] until you are clothed with power from on high. Luke 24:49 (AMP)

Jesus, Himself, said what we read above; "I will send . . . what My Father has promised. This "promise" was to cause the disciples to be "clothed with power." Not just natural power, but "power from on high."

This supernatural power is so important to every believer that they are to wait to move in ministry until they have received it. We read that John the Baptist said, ". . . He Who sent me to baptize in (with) water said to me, Upon Him Whom you shall see the Spirit descend and remain, that One is He Who baptizes with the Holy Spirit" (John 1:33 - AMP). From this we can see that the "promise of the Father" is the Person of the Holy Spirit and that the "power from on high" is resident in, and comes with, Him.

This power is so important to the believer that Jesus repeated His injunction in Acts 1:4 (AMP):

And while being in their company and eating with them, He commanded them not to leave Jerusalem but to wait for what the Father had promised, Of which [He said] you have heard Me speak. Acts 1:4 (AMP)

This, Beloved, is the precious Baptism in the Holy Spirit. This baptism can be both evidenced and heard.

Being therefore lifted high by and to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promised [blessing which is the] Holy Spirit, He has made this outpouring which you yourselves both see and hear. Acts 2:33 (AMP)

Search the Scripture and you will see that it teaches clearly that every believer is to seek and receive the "promise of the Father," the baptism in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in other tongues.
