When Everything Comes Crashing Down

And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.  Matthew 21:44 (KJV)

When everything around you comes crashing down, when nothing seems to be working out, when chaos appears to be overwhelming the peace of God within; what can we do?

When people revile you, lie about you, use and abuse you; what can you do?

Whatever comes against you, whatever presses you beyond your limit, whatever words are spoken to slander and demean you; fall on the Rock.

You may say, “You don’t understand how they have hurt me.” I may not, but I have had enough betrayal in my life to know that it took my being broken to rise above the pain of those betrayals.

We, dear Christian, have a mandate from God to forgive; not to justify or defend.  In Mark 11:25-26 (KJV) we read, “And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses. But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.”

It seems so unfair. It seems so unfair until it is compared with the betrayal of the Son of God who only went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed of the devil.

We can see Him falling on the rock in the Garden of Gethsemane until He sweat great drops of blood and yielded to the horrors of the Cross. He fell on the stone until He was broken and was enabled to endure the betrayal of friends, the mocking of the crowds, the jeering of the religious leaders, puffed up with religious pride, and even the moment when His Father looked away from Him while He hung on the Cross, bearing the sin of all mankind.

Dear One, Fall on the Rock, Christ Jesus. Humble yourself before the Cross of His (and your) victory until you are broken enough to let Christ live in you to the degree that you, too, can say with complete joy, “Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.” (Gal. 2:20; Luke 23:34 KJV)

Join me. Let’s fall on the Rock today. Joy cometh!
