And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. Ephesians 3:19 (KJV)
We are encouraged to know (ginosko) the love of Christ. The Greek word used here is that of an intimate knowing that is shared by a husband and wife. Their innermost secrets are shared and their physical bodies are shared in their bed.
This is how familiar the true believer is to be with the (agape) covenant love found only in Christ (the Anointed One and His anointing). The knowledge of this love is pursued with more passion than can be found in the pursuit of anything or anyone else.
This is supernatural love “which passeth (huperballo) knowledge (gnosis).” It is covenant love that transcends, exceeds, and excels beyond general intelligence, knowing the difference between right and wrong, education or science.
The call to know this kind of supernatural love is so that we can be “filled (pleroo) with all the fulness (pleroma) of God..” To be “filled” is to be liberally supplied and rendered perfect. It is to be saturated, as when all the air is wrung out of a sponge and every pore is filled with liquid. It is to be filled to the top so that nothing shall be wanting to full measure. The Lord’s desire is to bring us to the place where we experience the “fulness of God” Himself. The word “fulness” (pleroma) gives us the idea of being a ship filled, or manned, with sailors and soldiers and laden with valuable cargo.
The Word of God is telling us that we are to seek that (agape) covenant love which allows us to be filled with the presence, power, agency, efficiency, ability, and riches of God and of Christ that the natural man will never know.
Such is the will and pleasure of our Father and our God. This is what Christ Jesus has provided to those who will seek to know.
