Soldiers that have been trained in the proper use of several different kinds of weapons, served overseas in war zones where split second evaluation of crisis events was an everyday reality, now come home and cannot get a permit to carry on base?
Many of these same soldiers have concealed carry permits and carry weapons off base but are not deemed fit to carry on base. Where is the logic in that?According to the General in charge, the Military Police response to this last shooting was a fast 13 minutes. Excuse me. How many rounds can be fired in 13 minutes? How many people can die in 13 minutes? This time, only 4 dead and 16 wounded. Only?
Imagine what would have happened if our trained, capable service men and women with carry permits had been on the scene. Response time would have been seconds and not minutes. Casualties would have been minimized as would those wounded.
Sara Palin, along with other thinking American leaders, is calling for the right to carry on base. Senate Majority Leader, Harry Reid, is calling for tighter gun control laws, as if that would have made a difference. The shooter did have a background check run when he purchased his firearm a couple of weeks before the incident.
Post traumatic stress is blamed when it is not even a factor in the incident and our returning heroes are now stigmatized by false reporting and fear mongering.
Also, consider this: The cities that have the tightest gun control laws have the highest shooting and crime rates.
Hmmm.
