Now concerning spiritual
gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant. 1 Corinthians 12:1 (KJV)
One of the most precious
things that the Lord does for us after we are born-again is to offer us the
full equipping of the Holy Spirit. We call this the Baptism in the Holy Spirit
with the evidence of speaking in other tongues. It is so important that the Lord actually commands us to receive this subsequent to salvation infilling (Acts 1:4, 5). This is just the beginning of the empowering of the children of God for the work of propagating the Gospel (Acts 1:8).
Much is said about the "gifts of the Spirit" as enumerated in 1 Corinthians 12:4-11 but not much is said about the connection between them and the "fruit of the Spirit" listed in Galatians 5:22-23.
There are nine gifts of the spirit and nine fruit of the spirit. Each gift is a manifestation of an attribute of the fruit of the spirit. The connection can be first seen in Exodus 39:24-26:
And they made upon the
hems of the robe pomegranates of blue, and purple, and scarlet, and twined
linen. And they made bells of pure gold, and put the bells between the
pomegranates upon the hem of the robe, round about between the pomegranates; A
bell and a pomegranate, a bell and a pomegranate, round about the hem of the
robe to minister in; as the LORD commanded Moses. Exodus 39:24-26 (KJV)
The "bell" is mentioned in connection with the "fruit (pomegranate) in 1 Corinthians 13:1 (sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal). Remember, faith works by love (Gal. 5:6). The "gifts" or "graces" also work by "love." The "fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and temperance."
Let us administer the "gifts" of God in the "love" of God. We might experience a greater manifestation if we would.
