That I May Know Him

That I may know Him

That I may know him, . . .; Philippians 3:10 (KJV)

My goal, my passion, my utmost desire is to know Him and to know his ways. Moses knew His ways, whereas others knew His acts.

He made known his ways unto Moses, his acts unto the children of Israel. Psalm 103:7 (KJV)

Way too many people are familiar with the acts of the Holy Spirit but not His ways; the acts of Jesus but not His ways, the acts of the Father but not His ways. The ways of God was what was important about the ministry of Christ on earth and yet we focus on what He did. The miracles, healings, the feeding of thousands, the walking on water, all catch our attention and we forget to look underneath the acts done to the ways that brought them about.

You get to know some things about a person by what they do but you do not really know them until you know why they did what they did. To really know someone intimately, you must hear their heart, understand how they think and know their character and the motive for their actions in life.

It is just not enough to know what Jesus did, although His acts were spectacular and demonstrated the power of God and the power of the resurrection. For a Christian to be able to say, "I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me" (Gal. 2:20 KJV), he must know His ways.

Even the most carnal Christian can do most of the acts of Jesus because of the resident authority tn His name. That is why we read of Jesus saying, "Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity" (Mat. 7:22-23 KJV).

May we know Him and His ways and then - His acts.
