Robbing your Father?

Robbing Your Spiritual Father or Mother

Whoso robbeth his father or his mother, and saith, It is no transgression; the same is the companion of a destroyer. Proverbs 28:24

There are some verses of Scripture that just curl my hair and this is one of them. As a pastor, I have great love for the sheep and, yes, even the goats. Christ loved all, came for all, shed His blood for all, and died for all. Though I am well aware that I do not have the right to insist that anyone obey the Word of God, I do pray that they will see the wisdom in it and become doers of the Word.

The doctrine of Grace has been so abused by the willful that it has almost been destroyed for lack of knowledge. The casting away of "law" has become the mark of "freedom" to the extent that " many church goers who profess to be Christians find themselves of the same mind as that of those mentioned in the book of Judges: "In those days there was no king in Israel; every man did what was right in his own eyes" (Judg. 17:6 AMP).

Today it could be written, "There is no King (Father, Son and Holy Spirit); everyone is doing what is right in their own eyes" (Deut. 12:8; Judg. 21:25; Pro. 3:7; 12:15; 16:2).

We see from Proverbs 28:24 that one who robs father or mother is the companion of a destroyer (chaber 'iysh shachath). In other words, is knit together, a companion with, and an accomplice with a destroying demon.

How does one "rob" his spiritual father or mother? There are three main ways: 1) Withholding support. 2) Stealing their reputation by gossip. 3) Withdrawing your grace from the work that God called them to.

When we understand the principles in the Word of God we will find ourselves flowing in liberty and victory every day of our lives. Is it time to repent (1 Joh. 1:9 KJV)? -
