Temple of the Living God
What agreement [can there be between] a temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God; even as God said, I will dwell in and with and among them and will walk in and with and among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. 2 Corinthians 6:16 (AMP)
One of the great truths of Scripture is that a Christian is the temple of the Holy Ghost (1 Cor. 6:19). The word used in both of these verses is the Greek word, naos, This word is specifically used only of the sacred edifice (or sanctuary) itself, consisting of the Holy place and the Holy of Holies. This is where God dwells. "Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you" (1 Cor. 3:16 KJV)?
The Christian thinking process, spiritual pursuits and physical desires are diametrically opposed to anything dead and lifeless such as an idol (eidwlon, eidolon). An idol can be an image or likeness of a false heathen god , a dead person (saint), or the term can be used to mean the shades of the departed, apparitions, spectres or phantoms of the mind and demons.
When we recognize Christ Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we are filled with the, zao theos , the living (not lifeless, not dead) and acting, powerful, efficacious God Himself (Father, Son and Holy Ghost). He comes to permanently live within, making His residence within, us.
The fellowship (lost because of the fall of man) of the Garden of Eden, where "The Voice" came and walked with Adam in the cool of the day is restored (Gen. 3:8) and now God says, I will be your ever present living in the now God, and you and your fellow believers shall be the people of my choosing and calling, who are found faithful (Rev. 17:14). I will be with you and walk in and with you. I Am your God and you are My, laos, tribe, My nation, and those who are of the same mind, stock and language.
