My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips. Psalm 89:34 (KJV)
“My covenant (bariyth) will I not break,” establishes the position of God in relation to those who put their trust in Him. He has made an alliance of friendship that is irrevocable. He has pledged to be in league with us world without end.
God has said, “. . . I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee” (Heb. 13:5 KJV). The Amplified Bible renders the verse in this way: “I will not in any way fail you nor give you up nor leave you without support. [I will] not, [I will] not, [I will] not in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake nor let [you] down (relax My hold on you)! [Assuredly not!].”
This is reminiscent of the Lord’s words to Joshua:
There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee. Joshua 1:5 (KJV)
God, who cannot lie, has cut covenant with those whom He has chosen and called. The blood of Jesus was shed, the spotless Lamb of God sacrificed, to ratify the covenant of God to those who would receive the Token of this great and precious promise (Titus 1:2; Heb. 10:29; Rev. 17:14).
The Almighty God has given to us Him whose “name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace” (Isa. 9:6 KJV). Jesus, the Christ, leaves nothing lacking in our covenant relationship with our Creator, God and Father. He who was dead is mediating this eternal covenant to see that it is never altered. Even death and hell are subject to Him
I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death. Revelation 1:18 (KJV)
What, then, could trouble us? Who can be against us being that our God is in covenant with us and will not change His mind? (Rom. 8:31)
