And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know. But if any man love God, the same is known of him. 1 Corinthians 8:2-3 (KJV)
The Holy Spirit illuminated these verses of scripture, as only He can, with regard to knowing God. A revelation of the deep things of God and in God are only accessible by one who has responded to the love (agapao) of God with love (agapao).
The repentance necessary for salvation only comes as the seeker of God is confronted with their utter hopelessly sinful condition. The revelation of God's holiness and the seekers sinfulness brings forth a river of agapao love. The degree of one's recognition of their sinfulness before a holy God is the degree of love (agapao) one has toward God. This can be seen in the record found in Luke, Chapter 7:
Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little. Luke 7:47 (KJV)
The Amplified Bible gives a clearer view of the original language as it draws on the power of God's unconditional love being a gateway to revelation of His Person:
If anyone imagines that he has come to know and understand much [of divine things, without love], he does not yet perceive and recognize and understand as strongly and clearly, nor has he become as intimately acquainted with anything as he ought or as is necessary. But if one loves God truly [with affectionate reverence, prompt obedience, and grateful recognition of His blessing], he is known by God [recognized as worthy of His intimacy and love, and he is owned by Him]. 1 Corinthians 8:2-3 (AMP)
