It Doeth Not Yet Appear
Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. 1 John 3:2 (KJV)
I simply love this word, Beloved. This is the Greek word, agapetos, a word which is derived from agape, the God kind of Love. This wonderful favorite of mine means, dearly beloved, well beloved, esteemed, favorite, and worthy of love.Did you catch that? "Worthy of Love." How did such a thing happen? What makes us worthy of the God kind of Love that issues from the Father to us ward?God chose you and I. He called you and I into covenant relationship with Him because He wanted to. He imputed righteousness to us because of the atonement wrought in Christ Jesus.
For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. 2 Corinthians 5:21 (KJV)
He adopted us into His family. "Now are we the sons of God."This is exceedingly, abundant and above anything that I can wrap my mind around, let alone express, yet, He tells us that this glory we experience is nothing compared to what is to come. "It doth not yet appear what we shall be," holds a promise that is beyond imagination and causes one to thrill at the thought of what this might mean. Then, we are told, when He comes, we shall be like Him. The Father's promise will be fulfilled just as assuredly as every word spoken by Him comes to pass. He cannot lie.
For those whom He foreknew [of whom He was aware and loved beforehand], He also destined from the beginning [foreordaining them] to be molded into the image of His Son [and share inwardly His likeness], that He might become the firstborn among many brethren. Romans 8:29 (Amp)
