Flesh and Spirit

Flesh & Spirit

Now there was long war between the house of Saul and the house of David: but David waxed stronger and stronger, and the house of Saul waxed weaker and weaker. 2 Samuel 3:1 (KJV)

The war between the house of Saul and the house of David was a war between the man of the flesh and the man of the spirit. You will note that it was a "long war."

Too many Christians believe that there should be no "war" after someone is born-again. This, Dear One, is just not so. The flesh dies hard.

The good news is that the man of the spirit will wax "stronger and stronger" and the flesh will wax "weaker and weaker."

This is accomplished through reading and meditating on the life giving, living, Word of God so that we are renewed daily and transformed into the image of Christ rather than being conformed to the world of the flesh.

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Romans 12:2 (KJV)

Don't despair. The war we wage is that of a "good warfare" according to the prophetic promises of God:

This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare; 1 Timothy 1:18 (KJV)

Our fight is a good fight that has already been won at the Cross and is affirmed by our profession of victory:

Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. 1 Timothy 6:12 (KJV)
