When the Righteous Rule
When the [uncompromisingly] righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; but when the wicked man rules, the people groan and sigh. Proverbs 29:2 (AMP)
Our great nation was founded by "righteous" men who believed that they were "endowed by their Creator with inalienable rights."
The United States Declaration of Independence, which was primarily drafted by Thomas Jefferson, was adopted by the Second Continental Congress on July 4, 1776. The text of the second section of the Declaration of Independence reads,
"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."
When our founding fathers signed this great document they understood that they were created after the image and likeness of Almighty God Himself. This great truth was the foundation that would allow this nation to become great. God was honored and the principles of life being precious, each individual being created to live free and to have the right to pursue happiness was understood and revered.
Jesus, the Only Begotten Son of God, gave his life for humanity that they might have the opportunity to choose the "life and life more abundantly" that He promised to all who would come to Him.
His example caused many men and women to give their lives to provide and protect the right of Americans to have life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness written of in the Declaration of Independence.
The right to maintain life, liberty and to pursue happiness does not come without cost but is purchased at a great price. Men and women who hold the self evident truth of our nation being One Nation Under God have paid with the shedding of their blood, even unto death, to insure that the dream of America would remain for all who come after them.
Today, I pray for righteous leaders who will remember and honor them and bring us back to the God who alone can keep and guide us.
