A Covenant of Peace
And I will restore [establish a covenant of peace] to you [for] the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpiller, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you. Joel 2:25
There are many "prophets" today who are so focused on world events that they are "prophesying" cataclismic events that are supposed to be the judgements of God on certain people groups or nations.
I am a strong believer in the prophetic and in God's ability to speak to a man or a people. With this said, I must declare that most doom and gloom "words" are simply the vain imaginings of individuals with underlying character weaknesses that have allowed a spirit of fear to invade their minds.
Does God warn of impending judgement? The answer is a resounding, Yes! When He does, He also gives a call for repentance that will stop the judgement and bring blessing. All one needs do is review the record found in the book of Jonah.
Come to think of it, many of our modern day "prophets" have the same problem that Jonah had. They want the Lord to bring judgement and fail to see the loving kindness of our God and King. Some, like Jonah, actually get mad at God because He is so long suffering, patient and kind.
Let's remember the words of Jesus as He dealt with His companions who were doomsday deliverers:
Luke 9:54-56 (KJV) 54 And when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elias did? 55 But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of. 56 For the Son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them. And they went to another village.
Beloved, be careful of who you listen to and what spirit you expose yourself to. Our Redeemer lives and He is come to bring you into the fulness of all that He is. He has purposed to bring you into all of His heavenly inheritance. He loves you and will not fail you. Not ever! "Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man" the blessings God has in store for you (1 Cor. 2:9-KJV).
