The Hand of Our God

The Hand of Our God

For I was ashamed to require of the king a band of soldiers and horsemen to help us against the enemy in the way: because we had spoken unto the king, saying, The hand of our God is upon all them for good that seek him; but his power and his wrath is against all them that forsake him. Ezra 8:22 (KJV)

We, the Christian Church, do not need the protection and help of the government to "help us against the enemy in the way." In fact the letter written by Thomas Jefferson to a concerned Baptist church stated that there would always be a "separation between the Church and State." This, in its context, was meant to insure the Church that government would never attempt to delve into the affairs of the church nor attempt to impose its will upon the church.

This letter has been twisted and turned by the enemies of Christ to mean that the Church should stay out of Government. No, Beloved, it meant, and means, that the Government should stay out of the Church. There is to be "freedom of religion," not, "freedom from religion."

Ezra 7:24 shows us the proper esteem the government and people should have for the leaders of the Church: "Also we certify you, that touching any of the priests and Levites, singers, porters, Nethinims, or ministers of this house of God, it shall not be lawful to impose toll, tribute, or custom, upon them." My how things have changed along the way.

"What can I do," you may ask? Remember that it is, "In God We Trust" and not a government that thinks it should take care of each of our wants and needs. Become familiar with the Constitution of the United States and the Bill of Rights and find out just what a government, "by the people and for the people," should look like.

Most of all: Read the Bible and pray. Get to know the Author of the Book of Books, the Holy Spirit, and learn the ways of God.

Look to Him for He has promised to, "supply all our need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus" as we become good stewards of His grace.

Find the gifts and talents that God has placed within you and then use them to glorify Him in all that you do. He will bring increase to all you set your hand to do as you do "all things as unto the Lord." (Mat. 25)
