We all know that prayer changes things, right? Wrong. Prayer doesn't change a thing. God changes things. He begins by changing the one who prays and then uses prayer as the instrument to facilitate or institute change.
The Bible teaches us that the effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous person has much effect:
James 5:16 ... the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
We know that this is true but are not sure that we qualify. After all, who is righteous? This question must be answered before we can bring our requests to God with any kind of assurance. It is important that we are able to confidently answer without hesitation or reservation.
Now, ask yourself: Am I as righteous as Jesus? What was your answer? Yes, or No? If you answered, Yes, you were right. If you are a born again, child of God, you are as righteous as you will ever get:
Romans 3:22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:
2 Cor. 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
Not one of us will ever be loved more by God than we are right now. This means we can do exactly what the Bible teaches at any given moment:
Hebrews 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
