This is a most interesting hour. Many who call themselves "Spirit filled" Christians deny the most basic and elementary teachings of Scripture as concerns the graces [gifts] of the Spirit of God. They maintain that "tongues aren't for everyone" or that "tongues don't belong in a church gathering - because we don't want to offend anyone." This kind of teaching is typical of Satan's deceits in that it gives great pride to those who have "the gift" and also reveals Satan's fear of tongues - the least of the gifts - in it's power to arrest the attention of the unbeliever and to strengthen the believer.
Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not:... 1 Cor. 14:22
He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; ... 1 Cor. 14:4
Doesn't it seem a bit odd to think that Jesus would command all of his followers to receive the promise of the Father and then change His mind as it relates to the Church of today. Would He Who is the same yesterday, today, and forever, give the early Church power and authority and then with-hold that same power and authority from the believer of today? That God has become a "respecter of persons" or has now decided that there is a "difference" so that one can be more, or have more, than another is inconceivable to me! (Act 1:4,5,8; Luk 24:49; Joh 7:37-39) (Act 10:34; 15:8-9)
For God shows no partiality [undue favor or unfairness; with Him one man is not different from another]. Rom 2:11-Amp.
