Superfluous . . .

Jesus came that you and I might have life, and more than that, a superfluous life. John 10:10 (Amp)

The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).

The Greek word perissos (Strong's 4053), which is translated abundance [abundantly in the KJV] is full of powerful promise. It tells us that Jesus came to give us life (zoe = God life) excessively beyond our human understanding of life. A life that is more "superabundant (in quantity) or superior (in quality)" than anything we could experience in the natural realm of human existence without the indwelling presence of Christ, the Anointed One and His anointing.

Scripture teaches us that this life is exceeding abundantly above what we could know naturally and that it is, in fact, superfluous.

For something to be superfluous, it must be such that it cannot be added to because there is already more than enough. There is just too much to even consider wanting more.

Our God is not enough; He is more than enough. So much so that the true believer is unwilling to accept any attempt by anything, or anyone, to add on to Him (As though one could). As the song says, "He's all I need, He's all I need. Jesus is all I need."

Faith is the only thing that can sound the depths of this place of provision, power, and peace. For faith, and faith alone, can lay hold of what is not seen and enjoy the substance of its reality before it is revealed to the senses:

Hebrews 11:1 (Amp) Now faith is the assurance (the confirmation, the title deed) of the things [we] hope for, being the proof of things [we] do not see and the conviction of their reality [faith perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses].
