Fear the LORD

Fear the LORD, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him. The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing. Psalms 34:9-10 (KJV)

Are you a saint of God? Indeed you are if in fact you have received Jesus the Christ of God as your Lord and Savior.

Why, then, is the church suffering from hunger and lack? Perhaps we “saints” have lost the fear of the LORD. I believe that the Church is in the condition it is in due to a lack of fearing God. We have come into the revelation of Him as our Loving Father, as our Provision and Healing, and as our Wonderful Counselor. We know Him as our Peace and Protection, our Wisdom and Knowledge, and our Savior.

In these precious and powerful truths, however, we have lost all fear of Him. I’m afraid that it is the old adage come to pass: “familiarity breeds contempt.” It is the malady of the children today that have made their parent their peer. May God have mercy on the parent that allows such disrespectful foolishness.

Fear, is the Hebrew word, ary yare’, and it means just what you think it means and more. Yes, it means, to be afraid of, to stand in awe of, to honor and respect, to dread the judgment of, and, to be terrified of being on the wrong side of.

Let us not be so familiar with God as our loving Father that we forget that He is also the Righteous Judge. He is to give and take life, lift up and take down both leaders and nations. He is our Creator and He is the Sovereign of all that there is or ever will be.

With the right balance of fearing Him and basking in His loving grace, we find complete safety and provision. They that fear Him and seek Him shall have no want of any good thing. The word translated, seek, vrd darash, brings to mind more than a casual looking for. Here is a seeking with care, a frequent consulting and enquiring of in prayer and worship. This is a seeking out and following after Him whom we require.

Then, we “shall not want any good thing.”
