An altar of earth thou shalt make unto me, and shalt sacrifice thereon thy burnt offerings, and thy peace offerings, thy sheep, and thine oxen: in all places where I record my name I will come unto thee, and I will bless thee. Exodus 20:24 (KJV)
The Creator of Heaven and Earth is Omnipresent. This simply means that He is everywhere at once. He does not dwell in a house made with the hands of man; and yet, He records His name in certain places and promises to meet with us there.
The first place He records His name is in an “altar of earth.”
But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. 2 Corinthians 4:7 (KJV)
We are to make of ourselves “an altar of earth.”
Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? 1 Corinthians 3:16 (KJV)
We have been “. . . sealed with that holy Spirit of promise” (Ephes. 1:13 KJV), and God has written His name in the foreheads of His servants.
And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads. Revelation 22:4 (KJV)
It is from this “place” that we “offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ” (1 Pet. 2:5 KJV). It is out of this “place” that give support to our spiritual leaders: “an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, well pleasing to God” (Philip. 4:18 KJV).
The “altar of earth,” our body, is one of the “places” which God has chosen to come to and to bless us. This “altar of earth” that burns with the flame of passion toward his God and yearns for the moving of His Spirit within is the one of which “God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people” (2 Cor. 6:16 KJV).
